The Wireless Section manages the purchase, lease and use of wireless communications equipment and services for all Nebraska state agencies. This includes all aspects of wireless communications, such as cellular, PCS, paging, two-way radio, satellite, and other wireless services and products. These services are also available to Nebraska political subdivisions. Equipment and service contracts are managed to provide state employees with efficient, economical and reliable wireless communications.
Cellular telephone and paging service is provided through multiple vendors throughout the state. Assistance is provided to help agencies and agency communication coordinators select the appropriate equipment and services to meet their wireless communications needs. A Multi-vendor radio equipment contract provides discounts for State agencies and political subdivisions for a variety of two-way radio equipment and accessories.
The public safety radio frequency spectrum is coordinated by the Wireless Section to ensure a uniform method of frequency assignments, reducing potential interference and to facilitate the planning process for public safety radio systems for user agencies. Wireless system design assistance and recommendations are provided, as well as radio propagation analysis for establishing hypothetical radio coverage areas prior to purchasing a system. Assistance is also provided regarding FCC licenses, Universal Licensing System, CORES, etc.
