ALIANT CHANGES DIALING -- DOES NOT AFFECT LINCOLN

Effective January 1, 1999, Aliant Communications changed the way customers need to dial calls in their Enhanced Local Calling Area (ELCA). The State of Nebraska subscribers in the largest exchange in the Aliant area, Lincoln, will not be affected by this change in dialing. Currently the State does not subscribe to the ELCA plan for Lincoln customers but subscribes to Extended Area Service (EAS). The following are the locations that State agencies in Lincoln can continue to call for no charge by dialing 9 + the seven digit number.

If callers dial these prefixes with the 1 + area code, you will be charged for long distance calls i.e., 9-1-402-665-1234. This information is also available on page 13 of the State Government Directory.

The dialing for each of the other Aliant exchanges will depend on the plan each individual line subscribes to. We would encourage users in these exchanges to dial calls within your 25-mile radius without the "1+402". If the call does not go through, you will know that your individual line has not been affected by Aliant's change.

1999 STATE TELEPHONE DIRECTORIES

The 1999 Nebraska State Government Directory has gone to print -- thank you to everyone for their last minute updates and clarifications. Due to the election in 1998, the printing of the directories was delayed and each Agency will be receiving their directories at the beginning of March. Included again in this year's Directory, are maps of the first and second floors of the State Capitol. Current information that will be printed in the State Government Directory is available on the Internet at http://www.state.ne.us. Then select State Phone Directory. You will be receiving information from the Materiel Division related to the recycling of the 1998 State directories.

MEGACOMM CREDITS

The November usage for 800 Megacomm billing which was billed to you on your December Division of Communications bill, will be credited back to your account on your January bill. Due to billing difficulties, AT&T was not able to provide call detail for the November usage and has credited the entire amount back to the State. The call detail for the Readyline usage for the same time period was mailed to each Readyline customer the week of January 11, 1999.

CHANGE IN INTERNET ORDERING

The Division of Communications is in the process of changing the way Agencies can order Internet service. We are currently developing a form that will reside on our home page on the Internet. Each agency will have an employee, designated by that Agency, who will have the authority to access this form and order new Internet service or make changes to existing accounts. Upon completion of the form, it will be sent to both Aliant Communications and the Division of Communications. We will then set up the billing according to what was entered on the form.

In conjunction with this change in ordering, the Division of Communications will also begin charging a $10 fee for the addition of an account or to make changes to an existing account. There will be no charge for the removal of an account. This charge will appear on your monthly telephone bill from our office. Additional information regarding these changes will be mailed during the next month.
